Formed in 1965 as a “Boys Band” the original members totalled twelve. Following a grant from the Royal Borough of Kingston Youth Service and a loan from the Surbiton Club, instruments were brought and dressed in converted Church Boys Brigade uniforms and Royal Marine Caps. The band carried out its first public engagement at Remembrance Sunday Parade in 1965. The intervening years have seen many changes with the introduction of Female members in 2000. Wearing exactly the same uniform as the boys, this break with tradition was seen as the way forward by band members and supporters alike. The band has adopted a military style structure and encourages members of the band to take on extra responsibility through the roles of Lance Corporal and Corporal. The band is proud to wear the Royal Borough of Kinston Colours on their uniforms and have represented the Borough in this country and abroad over its 40 year history.
